Contact: Kerry Benik  |  benik@flightsafety.org \n2023 Safety Forum Theme“Knowledge\, Skills and Experience for Safe Operations” \nAs demonstrated by the COVID-19 crisis\, aviation industry resilience and vitality are in many areas constrained by the availability of suitably trained\, qualified and experienced staff. The issue affects everyone – people on the sharp end in flight operations\, maintenance\, ground handling\, air traffic control and airport personnel\, as well as managers and other personnel on the blunt end. There has also been a loss of experience through normal retirement and through redundancies where alternative employment has proved more attractive than returning to aviation. At the same time\, new realities in the industry and society\, including paradigms for sustainable development\, technological advances\, new business models and new generations are bringing new demands for particular skills and knowledge. \nWe are interested in understanding: \n\nHUMANS FOR CURRENT SAFE OPERATIONS. What insights and experience can you offer on how to attract and retain the talent we need for safe aviation operations?\nHUMANS FOR FUTURE SAFE OPERATIONS. A changing industry will require different skills and knowledge than we have today. What are those? How should we proactively manage talent for future safe operations?\nTHE PATH TO DIVERSITY. Diversity and inclusiveness are key values. They are also key drivers for resilience. What can you share about practical approaches to support diversity and inclusiveness for resilient and safe aviation operations? How do we achieve the diversity of thought that may lead to safety improvements and enhance resilience?\n\nThere are many questions we would like to discuss\, including how the industry can best develop the broad range of knowledge\, skills and experience required for safe operations\, and what mitigations might be adopted to deal with staffing limitations\, should these continue. Are we training on the right skills\, and are regulatory knowledge requirements still appropriate? How do we know when we are ‘good enough’? What is the difference between competency and currency? How can we ensure competency? If we accept that some staff will be trained to a minimum standard\, how should they be supervised? What proportion of new hires is acceptable before operations have to be curtailed to ensure that supervision and experience are not spread too thinly? What regulatory changes are needed? What structures do we need to put in place for bringing these new hires up to a higher performance level at a later date? What risks can be identified? What are the well-being considerations and demands on supervisors and others? How do we ensure cross-fertilisation of knowledge between the interdisciplinary actors? What is the best way to manage the inter-generational knowledge transfer? \nThere are more questions than answers here\, but if you have ideas or an innovative approach that might address any of the problems in developing and retaining knowledge\, skills and experience within our industry\, we would like to hear from you. \nContact information:  Tzvetomir Blajev |  blajev@flightsafety.org \nFlight Safety Foundation Safety Forum\, hosted by EUROCONTROL\, in partnership with EUROCONTROL and ERA\, powered by SKYbrary. Many Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) are under extreme financial difficulty as airline revenues have evaporated. Yet air traffic services provided by ANSPs remain essential to the safe and efficient operation of airspace\, especially during the COVID-19-pandemic. In some instances\, air traffic services have been interrupted because ATC facilities were evacuated and cleaned following personnel coronavirus-positive test results. How are ANSPs dealing with financial challenges and sustaining essential air traffic services? What are the immediate challenges related to the COVID-19 crisis from an operational and safety perspective? What are the key international harmonization considerations as air traffic returns? What steps are being taken to prepare ANSP capabilities\, processes and workforces for a post-pandemic world? \nJoin Flight Safety Foundation as it continues its COVID-19 pandemic series of International Webinars. Our panelists will discuss what goes into planning for and mitigating the impact of the virus at ANSPs\, and what improvements could be made to the system to help ANSPs manage through the current crisis and prepare for the future. \nPanelists Include: \nMs. Teri Bristol\, Chief Operating Officer\, U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)\nMr. Eamonn Brennan\, Director General\, EUROCONTROL\nMr. Simon Hocquard\, Director General\, Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO)\nMr. Kevin Shum\, Director General\, Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS)\nMr. Neil Wilson\, President and CEO\, NavCanada \nModerated by:\nDr. Hassan Shahidi\, President & CEO\, Flight Safety Foundation \nOn Demand\nWatch now for Managing the COVID-19 Crisis: Impact on Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) \non demand \n  \n  URL:https://flightsafety.org/event/managing-the-covid-19-crisis-impact-on-air-navigation-service-providers-ansps/ END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20200512T100000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20200512T111500 DTSTAMP:20230930T004556 CREATED:20200420T193028Z LAST-MODIFIED:20200513T142955Z UID:10000069-1589277600-1589282100@flightsafety.org SUMMARY:Managing the COVID-19 Pandemic: Regulators DESCRIPTION:Webinars\nManaging the COVID-19 Pandemic: Regulators \nDate\nMay 12\, 2020\n10:00 – 11:15 AM EDT / 2:00-3:15 PM UTC \nWebinar discussion\nWorld regulators have a wide range of safety oversight responsibilities. Under normal conditions\, these oversight responsibilities are complex and challenging to ensure safe operations. How is the COVID-19 pandemic affecting these responsibilities? Whether it is cargo aircraft ferrying in needed supplies\, passenger aircraft transporting people out of danger zones\, or helicopters conducing search and rescue operations\, aviation provides unique capabilities during humanitarian crises. The same is proving true during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. Join Flight Safety Foundation President and CEO Dr. Hassan Shahidi for the informative webinar\, The Impact of COVID-19 on Humanitarian Air Operations. How are humanitarian air operations helping the world cope with the pandemic? Do governments need to ease regulations on a temporary basis to enable humanitarian air operations to proceed at full capacity during the global crisis?
